For eighteen years, Christina Macdonald was the sole teacher at Skigersta School in North Lewis. Pupils from five school years. One Classroom. She wrote poems in Gaelic about local life and people to give the children a sense of their heritage in both lifestyle and language.

Set to music by her son Donnie, these are her poems – her legacy.

The book includes lyrics and background information about the poems/songs and about Christina herself in both Gaelic and English.

    I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend to all. I went to primary school in the Hebrides in the seventies and loved reading about the history of Canna school. You get a wonderful insight into the challenges of running a small island school over the past 130 years and the social history of the Island. There are some fascinating details and stories about the experiences of the children and the teachers. Great read!
